Day 2: MIA ✈️ CTG 🚐 BARÚ
Sunrise in Miami
It’s always fun traveling internationally during World Cup ⚽️. I watched the first half of the game on the phone of the girls in the row in front of us that miraculously still had wifi/cell coverage throughout boarding, taxiing, and take-off
Barú is an “island” (barely), about 15 miles north of Cartagena . You can either drive (connected to mainland via bridge) or take a boat from Cartagena. The plan had been to take a boat to our hotel, ala White Lotus Season 1, but the line through immigration at Cartagena airport was so long we missed our boat and had to take a minivan taxi instead. Hooh boy. Nothing like an hour long drive through the slums of Cartagena and over bumpy dirt roads through sketchy undeveloped countryside after a 6 am wake-up call, 3-hour international flight, then 2 hour airport immigration ordeal.
All worked out fine; I had pre-ordered our welcome drinks (via WhatsApp chat, natch), and our arrival was a little slice of heaven.
The resort is gorgeous; brand new, all natural and eco-friendly construction materials.
It’s a Sofitel, a French hotel chain, so the staff all greet you with “Bonjour, Buenos Días.” So cosmopolitan.
